   My major work is tax reporting, such as corporate taxes, by the due date of tax returns and reviewing tax risks. Also, I am responsible for accounting work to make separate and consolidated statements such as monthly, quarterly and yearly settlements.

2. 2. What do you think are the most necessary job skills when you do the corresponding work?

   I need tax knowledge as well as accounting knowledge for the work process. Therefore, basic accounting and tax knowledge is very helpful for me to adapt to the work. Sometimes I also contact the staff of overseas subsidiaries to make consolidated statements. So, it would be better I could have foreign language skill to communicate with overseas staff. But most of all, I think the most important thing is meticulous examination and a progressive attitude toward the work.

   The accounting team has the conditions to raise professionalism in segmented fields. While raising professionalism in the tax field I am currently responsible for, I want to grow into a professional with hands-on experience in financial accounting and cost accounting so that I can see things from various points of view.

   Our planning team’s RE business work is mainly divided into profit and loss management and plant management. I am responsible for profit and loss management. To maximize the profit and loss of the RE business, I make estimated profit and loss and performance profit and loss statements and report them. I also estimate monthly/yearly manufacturing costs and analyze the reasons for increases and decreases. I also estimate the manufacturing cost of major suppliers and competitors, identify technology trend, and establish countermeasures.

   HR/Management is mainly divided into three tasks. The first one is talent recruitment and the employment procedure. The second one is support for the welfare of executives and employees, manpower operation, labor-management relations, and evaluations of and rewards for executives and employees. And the third is the career development of internal talents, improvement of organizational culture, assessment of performance, and management and cultivation of global talents. Among these, my job is the management of education programs for executives and employees.

   This job needs communication skills. HR should communicate with employees about the direction the company is pursuing and relay what employees want to the company. So, communication skill is needed to help to maintain the positions of both sides while inclining toward neither of them.

   I think the biggest advantage and attraction of HR is to move company in the direction I imagine. Ten years from now, I want to be an HR man who can be helpful for OCI to grow as a great company to work for, while also looking forward to the next 20 years. 1. 1. Please introduce the work of chemical process engineers and describe your responsibilities in detail.

   Chemical process engineers contribute to the growth of OCI in the front line of profit creation by managing and improving processes to produce products in an optimized state according to designated production.

   They establish production plans and plans for the supply and demand of raw/supplementary materials, and produce products based on the plans. They continuously observe the actual production status according to the production plan by managing the daily/monthly/quarterly production amount and stock amount, recheck future operational methods, and analyze the factors that affect production. Based on the above, they plan the production work in the direction of improving productivity.

   Also, they make efforts to efficiently operate processes by managing production facilities and minimizing the occurrence of problems for the smooth production of products. They save energy and manufacturing costs by improving processes to increase productivity with the optimization of existing processes and change existing production lines and extend plants to reflect improved process designs.

   I am a section leader on the RE chemical production team in the Gunsan plant. I manage the overall work of the production team. Along with field technology workers, I make efforts for the processes I take responsibility for to run safely and efficiently.

   Knowledge of chemical engineering is necessary, because the engineers should establish production plans, operate processes for the smooth production of products according to the plans, and solve problems. Also, they need analytical skill and creative thinking to perform process improvement that saves costs and increases productivity by optimizing existing processes. Lastly, as they are in an important position that is directly connected to production, quality, and safety, it is important for them to take action, have a positive mind, and have patience for problem solving.

   I would like to grow into a leader who is responsible for the whole plant, like my current senior chemical process engineers. Additionally, I want to develop the ability to design, install, and operate the whole process by maintaining hands-on ability.

   I think taking action and trying to solve problems without giving up, along with positive thinking, are the most important things. 1. 1. Please introduce the work of electrical engineers and describe your responsibilities in detail.

   The maintenance teams electrical engineers usually work on operate plants with two items. One is ordinary investment (new) and the other is maintenance (existing facilities).
   Ordinary investment refers to developing and introducing new plant projects and new facility systems. Currently, the Pohang plant is working on a carbon black process carcass line U-2.4 separation project that is in its early stages. For this project, the job of electrical engineers starts with an estimation of material quantity. The production division usually sets the basic framework for projects and sends it to the maintenance team. The estimation of material quantity is divided into purchases of measuring instruments and valves, instrumental and electrical construction, purchases of electrical and DCS panels, and other grounding and lighting construction. First, we examine the instrument schedule to select measuring instruments and valves and choose the type of measuring instrument and materials that are suitable for each process and location.
   In this process, price and instrument performance can vary greatly. So, it’s important to select the most suitable measuring instrument. Also, electrical panels and cables need to be designed according to the list of power machinery. This should be accompanied by DCS (PLC) work for automatic operation, and the design of other grounding and lighting construction is executed.

   Along with the above work, we do estimations of material quantity, and if the project is executed, we purchase the materials with purchase applications, selection of measuring instruments, and technical examinations. After the goods are inspected if needed, the instruments are installed and pilot operation is executed.

   Maintenance is repair work including preventive inspection and diagnosis for the operation of existing plants without problems. It is important to quickly normalize plants when accidents occur and set measures to prevent recurrence.

   Maintenance work mainly needs knowledge and technology. I think an electrical engineer license is very helpful. As for instrumentation, universities usually do not have it in their curriculum. So, I think OJT education or training after joining the company is needed. Also, when electrical engineering is divided into new projects and maintenance of existing facilities, it is important to have problem-solving abilities and understanding and competence in judgment about how to approach and solve problems when accidents occur.

   Ten years from now, I think I will be working as an engineer who builds and manages plants after accumulating knowledge about generators and electrical power systems in the power division after being in the instrumentation division. People say electrical engineers usually talk with blueprints. I hope to become an engineer who always works with blueprints close beside him without neglecting to learn in the field as well as the office.

   Many students want to work in Seoul or metropolitan cities. However, electricity is invisible, and working in the office has limitations. Seeing and learning in the field is helpful for their capabilities and career. I want to advise people that they should experience a lot in plants and build a career when they are new employees.

   Quality engineers analyze, manage, and guarantee all the products of OCI. They analyze the quality of materials that are used to produce products, intermediate products generated in major processes, and final products, and monitor them, thereby providing valid information that helps find quality abnormalities. They establish management standards for monitoring of materials, processes, and product quality, and interpret and manage the data using statistical techniques. They decide the release of finished products by referring to the analysis results and issue test reports. They also carry out internal quality audits and manage related departments to acquire and maintain an ISO9001 quality management system.

   Lastly, they respond to audits, complaints, and the requirements of customer companies that use OCI products. They make efforts to provide the best satisfaction and value to customer companies and build trust relationships with this. Regarding the work above, I take responsibility for the response related to audits of polysilicon products and quality analysis for major customer companies.

2. 2. What do you think are the most necessary job skills when you do the corresponding work?

   The most necessary job skill for working on the quality analysis team is background knowledge about chemicals and analytics. This is because we can think about the analysis methods that are suitable for the substances that we want to analyze only when we understand the chemical characteristics of substances and measurement principles of analysis equipment. And, as the other teams support the production team, chemical engineering knowledge to understand chemical processes well will be helpful for working on those teams.

   I think I will grow into a hands-on expert for the quality management of products from the Gunsan plant.

   As a quality management expert, I will actively provide communication to satisfy customer needs and play an important role in increasing value and trust in products.

1. 1. Please introduce the work of R&D researchers and describe your responsibilities in detail.

   The OCI Central Research Institute conducts research for development of next-generation products. It is mainly divided into two sections, one for research on new materials, higher-value products with existing materials, and systems related to sunlight and energy storage systems (ESS), and another that conducts research with the purpose of development of new chemical processes and related equipment and creation of profit with existing process improvement.

   I am responsible for the development section. My aim is to make profit by effectively and efficiently improving the existing processes of OCI. It is like “squeezing out a dry towel,” in other words, the key point of the research is to find the part where there may be water and squeezing only that part instead of the whole towel. Furthermore, based on the know-how and experience I acquired from process improvement work, I want to develop new processes and evaluate these. I will work hard in order for the next-generation products of OCI to rapidly land smoothly and make a profit.

2. 2. What do you think are the most necessary job skills when you do the corresponding work?

   The most important skill for R&D is flexibility. Most researchers come to the research institute after graduate school. After joining the company, they are assigned to a department. If the department does not cover the major they did in graduate school, they are confused. Here, they need flexibility to accept new subjects. They should apply what they learned to the department or accept whole new subjects. This is a requirement that is always needed, not when you are a new employee, due to the nature of the research institute where projects are frequently changing.

   Moreover, flexibility will be helpful for you to think about how you can apply the research you conducted to the actual field and make a profit, and not keep it in the laboratory.

   I want to be a project leader who starts new processes or improves existing processes by gathering many experiences and know-how about research on the development and improvement of the processes we do now. Also, if possible, I want to promote and sell the advanced technical solutions of OCI with external work such as being a process consultant instead of working within OCI.

   You can accumulate various experiences in the OCI Central Research Institute. At first, these experiences may be unfamiliar and difficult.
